What is share of search on Blinkit?

Share of search on Blinkit is the part of the visible search results your brand holds for a keyword, with the top positions counting most. In quick commerce (QComm) the number that matters is first-scroll share, measured separately for organic and sponsored listings, city by city.

The short definition

When a shopper types a keyword on Blinkit, they see a ranked list of products. Share of search measures how much of that list is your brand. Because shoppers look at the top and rarely scroll far, a good measure gives more weight to higher positions and counts the first scroll on its own.

Why the first scroll

On a phone, only the first few results show before the shopper scrolls. That is the first scroll. Most buying decisions happen there. Being tenth for a keyword is close to being absent. So the most useful version of share of search is first-scroll share: of the slots a shopper sees without scrolling, how many are yours?

Organic and sponsored, measured apart

Blinkit search results mix organic listings and sponsored listings marked as ads. Both make you visible, but they are different problems:

  • Organic share is earned. It comes from sales history, relevance, availability and listing quality. It stays when you stop spending.
  • Sponsored share is rented. It lasts as long as the budget does.

A brand with high total share that is mostly sponsored has a cost problem waiting to happen. A brand with high organic share on a keyword may be paying for ads it doesn't need there. Keep them apart.

Weight by search volume, read by city

Not all keywords are equal. Your brand name gets fewer searches than the category's generic terms, where most shoppers start. Weight each keyword by its search volume when you add them up.

Read it by city, too. Each dark store has its own results, and a national number can hide a city where you have vanished.

Branded vs generic keywords

Many brands hold their own brand keyword and almost nothing on the generic keywords where most searches happen. Share of search makes that gap visible. Defend branded keywords if competitors bid on them; win generic keywords to grow.

How to use it

  • Find keywords where you rank just below the first scroll. Small gains there are cheap.
  • Find keywords where you hold the first scroll organically and check you aren't paying for ads on top.
  • Watch competitors whose sponsored share is rising. They are buying the category.
  • When share drops in a city, check availability first. Out-of-stock products drop out of results.

Questions brands ask

Is share of search the same as share of voice?

They are used for the same idea. On Blinkit both describe how much of the search results a brand holds for its keywords.

Why separate organic and sponsored share?

Organic share is owned; sponsored share is rented and stops when spend stops. A total that mixes them hides whether your visibility is earned or bought.

Why measure by city?

Each dark store has its own search results. A brand can hold the first scroll in one city and be absent in another.

Does share of search predict sales?

It is the top of the funnel, not sales. It shows whether shoppers can see you. Availability and price decide whether they buy.

How should keywords be weighted?

By search volume. A keyword many people search should count more than a rare one. A simple average across keywords misleads.
